The DeWalt 18v platform is about to offer more power than ever before with their new FLEXVOLT ADVANTAGE range of tools.
These new tools feature FLEXVOLT ADVANTAGE technology, which includes new brushless motors with stronger magnets and increased copper in the outer windings, plus a brand new electronic module. The smart thing about this new electronic module is that it recognises what type of battery pack is being used in the tool, and can draw more current and adjust the power output accordingly. This means that when you use a high performance XR FLEXVOLT battery pack with a FLEXVOLT ADVANTAGE tool, as opposed to a standard 18v battery, you get much more power!
DeWalt’s 18v range is their largest cordless system, and provides enough strength and runtime to complete most standard applications quickly and easily. But, for those of you who regularly need extra power from your tools to complete tougher tasks, the new FLEXVOLT ADVANTAGE range is ideal. These new tools leverage the maximum performance from XR FLEXVOLT batteries, reaching their full potential and providing additional power, whilst remaining in the popular and accessible XR 18v system.
4 new tools launching as part of the FLEXVOLT ADVANTAGE range
Featuring new, more powerful brushless motors and more intelligent electronic modules!
When using these tools with a standard 18v XR 5.0Ah battery on tougher applications that require more power, overload protection can often kick in, causing the task to be performed considerably slower - or the electronic module may cut the power completely to protect the battery pack.
But when moving to a 6.0Ah XR FLEXVOLT battery, and keeping the application and tool settings entirely the same, you can experience a vast increase in power compared to that standard battery - up to 42% more power with the DCD999 Combi Drill, and up to a massive 77% more power with the DCS573 Circular Saw. With more power comes more speed, and combining the FLEXVOLT ADVANTAGE tools with an XR FLEXVOLT battery gives you more usage per charge, and faster cutting, drilling or grinding speed too.
How can you get so much more power, when all you’ve changed is the battery pack?
The key difference is the properties in the two kinds of batteries. A standard 5.0Ah 18v XR battery has 5 strings of cells, but only 2 built in parallel - whereas a 6.0Ah XR FLEXVOLT battery also has 5 strings of cells, but 3 are built in parallel. Plus, the XR FLEXVOLT battery has much lower resistance, or impedance, so we’re able to draw more power from it. Combine that with the new, more powerful brushless motors and more intelligent electronic modules in the FLEXVOLT ADVANTAGE tools, and you get a whole new threshold of power in the DeWalt 18v system.
Be a part of the DeWalt FLEXVOLT ADVANTAGE revolution when these new tools launch in Spring 2021 - and remember, if you have any questions about this or any other of our product ranges, you can always get in touch with our customer service team.
