One battery pack for everything – Nine power tool manufacturers including Metabo present a joint battery pack system with the Cordless Alliance System (CAS). This is something no power tool providers have done before, having a manufacturer-independent battery pack system. This is a fantastic advantage for the end user in regards to cost - not having to invest in several different battery platforms for different tools across their business, just the one, and a quality powered one at that!
CAS brings together various companies with very different competence areas. The manufacturers working with the new CAS system are:
- Metabo - variety of handheld power tools
- Rothenberger - is a major manufacturer of pipe and plumbing tools
- Mafell - provides mainly woodworking tools like saws, planers, and mortising
- Eisenblätter - manufacture heavy construction tools and specialise in the metal industry
- Collomix - specialise in hand-held mixers for construction and paint industry
- Haaga - manufacture dust collection tools and sweeping brooms
- Starmix - specialise in vacuum cleaners and de-dusting applications from the home to work sites
- Eibenstock - Provide tools for heavy construction sites
- Steinel - Home security, lighting glue guns and hot air tools
These brands are making steps towards its vision of a cordless construction site with the 2nd generation of Metabo 18V LiHD battery packs, the 8.0 ampere hours (Ah) capacity battery pack with only 10 cells delivers a massive 1,600 watts of power.
This also makes working not only easier for professionals - even the companies themselves profit from the battery pack alliance. The vacuum cleaners from Electrostar, for example, that are sold under the brand name Starmix, are used by craftsmen from different industries.
“If these craftsmen can then also operate a whole range of power tools with our battery packs, this would be a clear competitive advantage for us”, says Electrostar managing director, Roman Gorovoy. The range of all CAS partners covers around 110 machines and this number will continue to grow very quickly.
"With LiHD we have enough power even for the most energy-intensive applications. Therefore, we can today build any hand-held power tool as a cordless machine - and in such a way that it meets the requirements of professional users in terms of power and endurance”, says Horst Garbrecht, Metabo’s CEO.
The alliance is set to get bigger with more smaller and larger companies to join in the name of battery pack technology under one roof. Their vision is that CAS becomes the leading interface for the manufacturers of the industry that offers their target groups special solutions and competence products precisely customised to their requirements.
