No self-respecting tradesperson or DIYer can operate without a quality handheld saw. When picking your handsaw, a simple rule of thumb is that bigger teeth and lower teeth per inch are better suited to softer materials, while smaller teeth are the best bet when cutting harder materials. Bigger teeth also cut faster, but as they’re removing more material, they will leave you with a rougher finish. If it’s a smooth finish you’re after then it’s important you use a finer blade.
