Makita have launched the 40V max XGT™, a new standalone cordless system in 2020. 40V Max XGT is engineered for select higher-demand applications and although the 40V max XGT batteries look similar in size to 18V LXT batteries, XGT is a completely new system with its own tools, equipment, batteries, and chargers. Innovative tool design and higher output from the batteries means a practical solution for those users with industrial tasks with a higher demand.
Makita made a promise for XGT to be the most reliable fast charging platform on the market, delivering more power and run time in as little as 28 minutes charge time and the tools and batteries will come with a built-in smart technology program, providing digital communication between the battery and tool.

New XGT batteries
Two new batteries will debut at launch – a 40V Max 2.5Ah battery (BL4025), and a 40V Max 4.0Ah battery (BL4040). Both of these Makita XGT batteries have LED fuel gauges with 4 indicator positions. They will be built with 10 Li-ion cells, much like 18V batteries, so in theory, a Makita XGT battery pack should not be any larger than 10-cell 18V battery packs.
XGT will stand side-by-side with the industry-leading 18V LXT System, giving users more battery-powered solutions for a fully cordless job site.
Continuous investment in LXT platform
Makita’s 18V ‘LXT’ range currently has over 200-products that are meeting demands across a wide range of applications. Makita will continue to invest heavily in the 18V LXT system, with more new products planned to ensure continued support for customers who have already invested into the 18v ‘LXT’ platform.
A charging adaptor (ADP10) will enable consumers to charge both LXT and XGT batteries using the DC40RA XGT charger but it seems XGT batteries will not be compatible with LXT tools.
Book your XGT 40V experience
Makita UK now offers tool demonstrations with an experienced team member who will arrange a visit to guide you through the new XTG products. Any product tests will be organised with your safety in mind (face masks, social distancing, products will be cleaned before and after use.)
